Layers

In amongst my piles of magazines, there is a box of additional paper and fabric that occasionally finds its way into my work. I recently pulled out a piece of wallpaper that has been in there for about five years and the time was right for it to make an appearance in one of my collages. It originated from my Mum’s house, discovered and salvaged when she was redecorating. It is still attached to a previous layer of paper which is very fragile and disintegrates on touch. I love the floral design and the dark background so knew it would happily fit in one of my botanical collages. The paper is thick and still stiff with wallpaper adhesive so it took a lot of extra glue to fix into place while I was finalising my image.

The finished piece is called Nemone and is part of a series of originals based loosely on real flowers (this one a pink Anemone) but given a little tweak here and there. Each collage has been given a female name, with reference to the real flower and/or the colours I have used in the design. Nemone is available to purchase in my shop
